Pop Up on the Prom aims to encourage people to value, share and preserve their social history and seaside heritage. Focusing on Worthing's promenade that stretches West to Goring and East to Lancing.
Since the first section was built in 1819, the promenade has undergone extensive developments; through research and talking to people we will explore the changes in architecture. fashion, leisure activities and use.
Photographs will enable us to 'walk through history’ reflecting
on how coastal communities
responded and continue to adapt
to changes in the town’s wealth
and social history.
Highlighting local traditions and pastimes through industry, recreation and war.
Presenting written, aural and photographic research since 1819 via a series of free activities and displays, interpreted in a family friendly format in public spaces along the promenade.
Culminating in a celebratory, heritage day, bringing together the successes of this inter-generational project. We will compliment the vision and growth for Worthing Museum’s regeneration through our schools’ outreach programme.
A pop up photo booth inspired by "Sunny Snaps” & “Worthing Walkies”a popular seaside photographic company. Our trained volunteers will capture new memories that will be printed and curated.
The project will involve the annual childrens parade along the
promenade, free pop up events and heritage walks on the prom throughout the Summer months of 2019.
The free, vintage heritage day will take place at East Beach
on the promenade and on Beach Green. Public will be encouraged to dress up in their favourite era and discover seaside entertainment from the past in September 2019.
